Introduction to Talking Circles for Building Community, Trust, and Peace within MHF and Beyond!

Training June 18th, 9-11 am Eastern, Online - Open for All MHF Members!

Please Join MHF and MN Peacebuilding Leadership Institute for this meaningful virtual event! We held a wonderful Talking Circles training in May and want to hold one again to give more people the opportunity to experience Circles. (And yes – you can come again if you enjoyed the first training!)

Mennonite Health Fellowship (MHF) and MN Peacebuilding Leadership Institute (Peacebuilding) are partnering to provide this 2-hour online training that teaches the basic philosophy, principles, vocabulary, and practices of the Indigenous talking circle process for virtual and in-person applications.

Training objectives:

1. Learn the history, philosophy, principles, and practices of the talking circle process.

2. Learn vocabulary and online and in-person applications of talking circles.

3. Experience and practice the talking circle process with others.

Since ancient times many Indigenous communities have utilized the talking circle process for community building, decision-making, problem-solving, conflict transformation, and celebration. It is designed for those wanting to work with others to build trust and peace within their spheres of influence.

This training will help us prepare for MHF’s October 14-16, 2022 in-person Annual Gathering (AG) in Akron, PA. While we hope you plan to join us at AG, please join us for this training whether or not you will be attending AG.

Training Facilitator: New to the MHF Board of Directors, Donna Minter, PhD is MN Peacebuilding’s Founder and a Master Certified Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience) STAR Trainer. Donna is a White–identifying European American cisgender woman. She is a licensed psychologist who has practiced neuropsychology for 25+ years in outpatient and inpatient clinics and educational settings. For 20+ years she has conducted court-ordered mental health evaluations and provided expert court testimony. As a peacebuilding instigator, she administers, implements, and conducts trainings and talking circles in Minnesota, throughout the USA, and internationally. Donna’s pronouns are she/her/hers.

MHF was honored to have MN Peacebuilding provide an INTRO to STAR training for us during our virtual Annual Gathering in 2021. That session received the highest feedback from attendees, and we are excited to offer this training – specific to MHF members and guests – to introduce more peacebuilding and communication skills for healthcare providers!
