MHF and Nazareth Project Inc. Welcome Volunteer Chaplains to Nazareth Hospital

Information Session, February 27th - 10 am Eastern

Nazareth Hospital serves Arab Christian and Muslim families in Nazareth, Israel and strives to provide whole-person care. Mennonite Healthcare Fellowship has partnered with Nazareth Project Inc, a Mennonite-affiliated organization that provides fundraising and support for Nazareth Hospital and School of Nursing to help grow and strengthen Nazareth Hospital’s chaplaincy program.

Beginning in late 2021, interested volunteers with or without a chaplaincy background are invited to consider spending a period of 6 weeks or longer in Nazareth serving as volunteer spiritual care providers alongside local clinicians and volunteers. There will also be opportunities for other kinds of volunteering within Nazareth Trust and Village for family members or chaplain volunteers to expand their experiences.

Through a generous grant from the Schowalter Foundation, MHF and Nazareth Project Inc. are hosting an information session.

Further, MHF’s Executive Director, Cate, alongside other MHF chaplains, will take part in helping spiritual care leaders at Nazareth Hospital measure and evaluate the program and the quality of spiritual care, in hopes of both strengthening and growing the spiritual care program while providing the highest quality of spiritual care to patients and families.

There have long been Mennonite and Anabaptist connections at Nazareth Hospital, including long-time Nurse and Nurse Educator at the School of Nursing in Nazareth, Nancy Martin, who served on the MHF Board.

MHF is honored and delighted to promote the volunteer chaplaincy program at Nazareth Hospital and are praying for God to stir in the hearts of some of MHF’s many and gifted members to consider spending a period of service in Nazareth. We particularly encourage Board Certified Chaplains to consider whether they can take a Sabbatical or period of time to serve, and we also welcome other clinicians interested in pursuing more advanced training and experience in spiritual care. This is an excellent opportunity, as well, for retirees and students during a summer term.

An Information Session will be held on February 27th, 2021, on Zoom.

From 10-12 am Eastern we will hear from current chaplains and staff at Nazareth Hospital about the hospital, and hear stories from their work with patients and families. This session is open to all and is a wonderful chance to hear about Nazareth Hospital for anyone interested!

From 1-3 pm Eastern those interested in knowing more about serving as a volunteer chaplain at Nazareth Hospital are welcomed back for an initial informational session and training on working across religious and cultural lines and how chaplaincy both deepens and differs from other forms of ministry.

Volunteers seriously interested in spending a period of time at Nazareth are encouraged to apply for a Stephen Roth Memorial Grant or, for students, for SET through MHF.
